I was， of course， familiar with this story from the movie， and I was already well aware of its focus on racial injustice and the attempts to overcome it。So， what really surprised me here， what I didn't know， and found wonderfully unexpected was the vivid depiction of childhood， particularly free range childhood in Part I。 The sort of childhood where kids run around unsupervised most of the day， making up tales and adventures and games， and have a whole world that is separate and even hidden from I was， of course， familiar with this story from the movie， and I was already well aware of its focus on racial injustice and the attempts to overcome it。So， what really surprised me here， what I didn't know， and found wonderfully unexpected was the vivid depiction of childhood， particularly free range childhood in Part I。 The sort of childhood where kids run around unsupervised most of the day， making up tales and adventures and games， and have a whole world that is separate and even hidden from the adult world。 Sometimes that world intersects with the adult world， and the children show great insight into that other world or， usually， are puzzled by its strange ways。 But they still have their own world。Scout is a beautifully drawn character of a kid， along with her brother Jem on the cusp of adulthood， and her colleague in wild imagination Dill。 And， setting aside all the tragedy in the book， it's funny too。 。。。more

jest całkiem odmienny od tego， czego się możemy spodziewać， a samo zakończenie owych wątków w pełni zaskakujące， niczym w świetnym kryminale。 Można widzieć tu powieść obyczajową， gdyż rzeczywiście， tło i zwyczaje społeczne ukazane zostały z niezwykłym mistrzostwem， a postacie， którymi zaludniony jest świat tej powieści to prawdziwy popis przekonujących， dynamicznych i wyrazistych charakterów。 Mamy jeszcze kilka innych， znaczących wątków， splecionych ze sobą， jak choćby tajemnica Artura "Boo" Radleya ukrywającego się przed światem w sąsiednim domostwie。 Każdy ma znaczenie， każdy ma swą rolę społeczeństwo i każde czasy， jeśli nie chcemy by motłoch nadawał ton ludziom。Co nam z lektur， które propagują walkę zbrojną w czasach， gdy nie ma z kim walczyć？ Do kogo strzelać？ Jak umierać i za co？
